Throughout the decades music has always been part of people’s daily activities and living. Some claimed it existed as early as the Stone Age period of human culture. However, most musicians would agree that music existed when man existed. The baby’s cry is already music, the sound of the leaves of the trees moved by the wind is also music and even simple human whistling is music.

Music has been called the language of the soul. Through music, people’s lives were transformed in many diverse ways no matter from what race and culture they may be from.

Different genres of music have a distinct impact to different collection of people. Some music may brighten people’s lives and become an inspiration as people would face the different challenges of life. However, there is also music that would bring pain to some people because that music is a remembrance of the dark memories of the past that a person may want to forget. However, whatever the feelings of the listener, music is the expression of the composer’s emotions, thoughts and experiences; may it be a positive experience or a negative one.

Music started with the natural sounds of nature – the whistling wind, the buzzing bees, and the baby’s cry. However, as human evolves, music also evolves; it’s a generated amalgam of sounds with a chemistry of human voice and instruments creating a melody, rhythm and symphony.

Humans learned to grasp and realize the value of music thus up to this contemporary period the art of music has continuously been evolving giving every human the kind of music that would pacify their individual standards.

Different music was categorized in different genres. These genres are created to aid listeners as to which song titles, singers and composers, they would listen to that would match their standards.

Mobile phones are widely used by almost everyone nowadays. It has greatly changed the way people communicate with each other. A mobile phone consists of many features that would suit the taste of the buyer. A common feature of these mobile phones is the “alerter” commonly known as the ringtone.

Ringtones are stylish musical sounds that a mobile phone emits. It somehow acts as a cue to the owner that there is an incoming call or message. It allows the user to identify calls, even if he is doing something else because the sound produced is audible enough to the user. It has turned into something more complex with the aid of growing technology. It usually reflects the personality of the person using the phone because the owner can personalize the ringtones depending on his preferences. Many individuals use distinctive ringtones so that they can distinguish if the phone ringing is theirs. There are also mobile phones that allow the user to identify a caller by only listening to a specific ringtone assigned by a user to a certain contact.

In all the places we go, we always hear different kinds of ringtones and there are definitely varieties of them. What started out as a simple beep, has turned into a more sophisticated ringtone. There are many kinds of ringtone which includes monophonic, polyphonic, and a truetone. Monophonic tones are simple ringtones. From the name, itself “mono” there is only a single note at a certain time. It creates a sound as the beeps are sequentially arranged to a more appealing one. This type of tone is compatible to all mobile phones. Other mobile companies added options that allowed the owner to compose his own monophonic ringtone. It is the most common type of ringtone few years back but there were some modifications done and the polyphonic tone has emerged. The polyphonic tone is quite the same as the first one but this time, there can be more than one note a time making the ringtone livelier rather than flat. The harmonic melody produced by this type caught the attention of most buyers and this was then preferred rather than monophonic tones. Not all phones can support the polyphonic tone and those who wanted to have this kind of tone would mean that they need to acquire a new mobile phone. Another type of ringtone is the truetone which is perfectly the same with those that we hear from our mp3 players. While monophonic and polyphonic tones are purely sounded without voices, the truetone is like listening to true music. It is the newest development in the world of ringtones. It has a quality that is not far from those compact discs that we purchase. Most young individuals enjoy listening to the songs of their favorite artists when somebody calls them. It is a breakthrough in providing entertainment to users of mobile phones. The owner of the phone can update his ringtone with the current hits in music or with his favorite songs. Aside from those songs and other forms of music, the user can also utilize their own recorded voices as their ringtones. This makes their ringtone unique and more original which most users usually want. Other companies have provided other interesting ringtones which can be downloaded in the internet or through services by the network provider. Ringtone demand has significantly intensified through the years and the ringtone industry is catching up with the increase demand. They still continue to provide quality ringtones that is for the enjoyment of their consumers. Users can exchange downloaded music with their friends and utilize them as their ringtones. Today, there were developments made and this includes the rise of ringback tones. These tones are purchased by the user through their network provider. The user does not get to hear the song but those contacts calling them do. Ringtones do not only entertain the user but also the caller.

Despite the popularity and widespread use of ringtones, people should learn to observe proper decorum in places that require them to turn off their phones or place them in silent mode so as not to disrupt certain activities, meetings or if staying in churches or cinemas. The user should also be aware that some individuals will find too loud ringtones irritating and some sort of pollution to the environment.
